SomaScribe (“SomaScribe,” “the Extension,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) is a free Google Chrome extension developed by Nyota Health that helps expectant and new parents research maternal health information more safely and comfortably. This Privacy Policy describes what data the Extension handles, where it is stored, how it is used, and the choices you have.
storage.local API.The Extension handles the following data, all stored locally on your device unless you explicitly enable optional cloud backup:
| Data | Where it lives | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| Milestone, weeks along | chrome.storage.local | Personalize the sidebar |
| Symptoms, mood, water, kicks, feeds | chrome.storage.local | Show your own history |
| Appointments | chrome.storage.local | Reminders + Google Calendar export |
| Hospital-bag checklist | chrome.storage.local | Personal to-do list |
| Trigger keywords | chrome.storage.local | Client-side content blur |
| Extension preferences | chrome.storage.local | Remember your settings |
| Anonymous UUID | chrome.storage.local | Used only if you opt into cloud sync |
| Pro sign-in token | chrome.storage.local | Keeps you signed in for Pro features |
| Ad-tracker block rules | Bundled with the Extension | Blocks known ad networks via declarativeNetRequest |
On pages you visit, the Extension highlights medications and foods with safety pills, translates medical jargon when you select a term, and softly blurs articles containing your chosen trigger keywords. This page text and image analysis runs entirely inside your browser and is not transmitted to our servers.
If you are a signed-in Pro user and you actively click Summarize this page orCredibility, the Extension sends the article URL and title of the tab you are viewing to our backend so we can return a structured summary or credibility rating. The full page text is processed locally; only the URL and title are sent, and only after your explicit click. This never happens automatically or for non-Pro users.
If (and only if) you toggle Enable cloud backup and enter a sync endpoint URL, the Extension will POST a JSON snapshot of the locally stored data above to that URL, keyed by the anonymous UUID. Nothing is sent unless you enable this. You can turn it off or delete the snapshot at any time. The sync endpoint is one you choose and control; we do not operate it by default.
The Extension blocks a bundled, static list of ad-tracker and analytics domains (~40 rules shipped inside the package) using Chrome’sdeclarativeNetRequest API, so your pregnancy searches are not followed around the web by third-party advertisers. The rules are fixed and shipped with the Extension — nothing dynamic is fetched.
The Extension uses Chrome’s alarms and notifications APIs to show optional, locally generated hydration reminders and a weekly digest of your logs. These reminders are generated on your device from chrome.storage.localand do not contact any server. An optional text-to-speech feature (tts) reads jargon definitions aloud and is also entirely local.
Locally stored data remains on your device until you delete it. UseSettings → Delete all my data inside the Extension to erase everything immediately. Uninstalling the Extension also removes the locally stored data. If you enabled cloud backup, deleting your data in Settings also removes the snapshot from your sync endpoint.
SomaScribe is distributed through the Google Chrome Web Store, which is governed by Google’s own privacy policy and terms. The one-click appointment export uses Google Calendar, which is governed by Google’s privacy policy. We do not share your data with third parties for advertising, marketing, or analytics.
SomaScribe is intended for adults navigating pregnancy, postpartum, or trying to conceive, and is not directed to children under 18. We do not knowingly collect information from children. If you believe a child has provided information, please contact us and we will delete it.
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards to protect information. Your logged data stays on your device under Chrome’s local storage protections. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, but we minimize what leaves your device by design.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be posted on this page with a revised “Last updated” date. Continued use of SomaScribe after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
